SURROUNDED BY LOVE
On the morning of my surgery
last week I began the day as I often do on a Tuesday morning, opening
the gym at the high school for the “old man’s basketball.” Each one of
the guys gave me grief about not playing – “just because I was having
surgery in a couple of hours” and then wished me well.
Throughout the balance of the morning, including in route to the
surgery, I received a number of calls from folks letting me know they
were thinking of me and praying for me.
Arriving at the surgery center with my family at my side I was greeted
by a friendly staff whose sole purpose seemed to be to make sure I felt
comfortable and informed with what was about to take place.
If all this love and attention was not enough, when my doctor arrived
the first thing he said to me was, “So you know Barb Latta? She told me
that you were going to be here today.” I responded, “Did she tell you
what to do like she normally does me?!” He chuckled and said, “No, but
it’s clear that you are loved!”
Since the surgery I have continued to receive calls, cards and well
wishes from a number of friends and family. While a relatively minor
surgery, the entire scenario has highlighted for me what I work to be
aware of…how blessed I am to be surrounded by love.
Including our bishop and throughout the church family both near and far
I have appreciated the prayers and support. From close friends and
neighbors I have appreciated their willingness to help out in anyway
necessary. From my family I have appreciated their expression yet again
of their unconditional love and care for me.
And finally, I appreciate Mrs. Latta making sure that the guy with the
knife knew that I was loved!
Blessings,

The Rev. Brian N. Prior, Rector
