ADVENT OPENINGS
As a kid one of the best things about
going to camp was that it was a place where you could try new things.
You were not held back by the usual restrictions of your own
insecurities or anxieties, or by limitations placed upon you by others.
Something about being in a supportive and encouraging community that
truly provides the impetus for trying new things.
Not unlike camp this is one of the great blessings of ECOR. Probably
ninety percent of the things that take place in our faith community have
come about because someone has taken the risk to “run it up the flag
pole.”
Whether at camp or ECOR, this does not mean that everybody gets to do
everything they want to do. When you live in a community you have to
give and take. What it does mean, however, is that there is an open and
inviting spirit.
Actually, that should be Spirit with a capital S. Because at the end of
the day that is what we are hoping for. If we open ourselves to God and
each other, God's holy and life giving Spirit will work through us.
That is also part of the Advent hope: that we intentionally take time
during the season of Advent to open our ears, our eyes, and our hands.
In this way we may truly experience the holy One we wait for.
Blessings,

The Rev. Brian N. Prior, Rector
