NEW LIFE? - SURE LOOK DOWN
A few days ago I saw a couple of
fellow parishioners head-down snooping around our flagpole area. They
were checking to see how our bulbs were progressing. Their downward gaze
was the right direction, just not the right place.
If you want to find new life at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection
all you have to do is look down…during our worship, during our
fellowship gatherings, during most any time we gather. What new life do
you see down there? - God’s smallest creation. They are hard to miss.
They’re everywhere and there are lots and lots and lots of them!
Case in point: Easter morning. A whole platoon of these little folks
processed in as our acolytes. Next came the reading of our lessons – the
only difference being that they were standing on a stool. Then it was
not a couple, or a platoon, it was an entire herd of them showcasing
their gifts for ministry as they proclaimed God’s word for the beginning
of the sermon.
The blessing of this often times loud rambunctious lot is that they
embody for us the new life that is ours this Easter season. Their
vibrancy, their lack of inhibitions, their wide-eyed wonder, their
joyful noise provide the rest of us with the assurance that in the end
we not only have life but life abundantly.
So while it’s hard to find the flowers beneath the lingering (or brand
new) snow, fear not! That ‘new’ we all long for this time of year is
right under our feet!
Blessings,

The Rev. Brian N. Prior, Rector
