KINGDOM WORK
Last week I had the pleasure of
facilitating a daylong retreat for the Executive Directors of the Union
Gospel Missions of the Pacific Northwest. The passion that these
individuals bring to what is generally referred to as “rescue” ministry
is incredible. They serve folks who find themselves, for a variety of
reasons, at a very challenging place. They are unwavering in their
commitment to help those who are desperately in need.
The ministry that these folks are involved with not only crosses
denominational lines but also faith traditions. Their mission is not to
get someone to join either a denomination or a faith community but
rather to serve those in need. At the heart of this ministry is Kingdom
work. The sole (or maybe soul) motivation of those involved with it is
to use the gifts God has given them to serve God through serving others.
Many in our own faith community are deeply involved, regularly doing
Kingdom work. You find them at Habitat for Humanity, at the Food Bank,
or just in their daily life and work. Likewise, we as a faith community
make a concerted effort through our monthly focused outreach, Team ECOR
to be about doing Kingdom work.
There is no shortest of need or opportunity to use the gifts God has
given us to be about the work of God's Kingdom. As we celebrate the new
life which is ours in Christ this Easter season may we continue to
strive to serve God by serving others.
Blessings,

The Rev. Brian N. Prior, Rector
