2008SHARING
OUR SACRED STORIES
For the last several weeks we have
been blessed to hear a number of our fellow ECOR folks share a part of
their story. I have found it to be a wonderful and inspiring experience
to listen to the personal faith journeys of our brothers and sisters in
Christ.
Kelli Rehbock shared the impact of her participation in the diocesan
youth program: TEC - Teens Encounter Christ; Rob Hartman, Cleo Clizer,
Merry Young, and Rob Brickett have all enlightened us on the importance
our church home plays in their lives and those in the larger community;
Vicki Weaver continues to share her experience of the young people in
our midst and how great the upcoming Youth Service is going to be.
These are just a few highlights of the last several weeks. The reality
is we regularly are blessed to hear the stories of those in our faith
community and beyond. The Blessing Bank is often a great example of an
opportunity to hear the work of the Spirit in other people's lives. And
this week at our Annual Meeting we will hear in part the story of our
parish over the last year.
Yet, it goes far beyond these “structured” times. Truth be told, as a
general rule, most of us are pretty autobiographical. We want, maybe
even need, to share our stories. It used to be standard in many cultures
and communities to gather around the fire, in others it was around a
meal, and now many do so “electronically” through emails and blogs.
Not long ago I heard a sage person suggest that everyone's story should
be recorded and kept in the Library of Congress. The proposor so
strongly believed in the absolute importance of every person’s story
that some sort of record of such should be kept.
We are a people with a story both individually and corporately. That, in
part, is why we gather every Sunday around the Sacred Table - to hear
our Sacred Story. It is also why we will continue to find ways to
provide opportunity for folks to share the story of their faith journey
both within and outside the walls of the church.
You never how yours or another's life maybe changed by inviting them to
hear our corporate Sacred Story or your individual Sacred Story.
Blessings,

The Rev. Brian N. Prior, Rector
